Developed under the Transformation in Access, Learning, Equity and Education Management (TALEEM) programme with the financial support of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and technical implementation by UNICEF as the Grant Agent.

The Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) training modules for primary school teachers in Punjab represent a significant step towards fostering critical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities in young learners. Recognising the transformative potential of primary education, this initiative aims to empower teachers to encourage independent thinking and use innovative learning approaches in classrooms. Mission
Through this six-week online training, aligned with PECTAA's mission to foster continuous professional development, primary teachers in Punjab will be equipped to integrate HOTS effectively into classroom teaching. The digital modules focus on practical pedagogy, interactive tasks, video demonstrations, and contextualised lesson planning across subjects including Urdu, English, Mathematics, and Science. Delivered through a user-friendly Learning Management System (LMS), the training enables teachers to access content flexibly and apply learning directly to their professional context.
Structured around six progressive modules, the training incorporates a balance of content knowledge, reflective tasks, and practical classroom applications. Teachers are encouraged to engage deeply with digital resources, self-assessment tools, and collaborative learning practices to bring HOTS alive in their classrooms. The programme is further supported through mentoring by Assistant Education Officers (AEOs), ongoing feedback, and peer collaboration.
Programme Structure and Module
The training spans six weeks, with each week dedicated to a specific component of HOTS. Each module requires approximately three hours of engagement, comprising video lessons, readings, reflective exercises, and hands-on lesson planning. AEOs will support teachers with two classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to guide implementation.
Module 1: Understanding HOTS
Introduces the concept of HOTS and its connection to Bloom’s Taxonomy. Teachers learn how to embed HOTS in lesson planning, teaching, and assessment to promote student-centred learning.
